The MADC Committee has allocated Fri 11, Sat 12 and Sun 13 May for performances of a workshop production at the Clubrooms under the supervision of Colin Willis. Two One-Act Plays have been proposed - Half an Idea and A Small Affair by Bob Larbey, well known for his TV successes The Good Life and The Darling Buds of May.  These plays:

  • have large casts with a range of ages, so everyone gets a go;
  • are not technically difficult in terms of set, lighting, costumes, props;
  • provide good opportunities for learning aspects of stage craft and ensemble playing.

The MADC, Malta’s oldest theatre company has been entertaining generations since its formation in 1910. Over the years, the club has grown from strength to strength with productions becoming ever more ambitious as the most recent Pantomime ‘Princes & The Pea’ can attest, attracting an audience of over 17,000.

At its last Annual General Meeting the following were elected to form the MADC management Committee: Alan Meadows as Chairperson; Simon Demarco as Hon. Treasurer; Marta Vella as Hon. Secretary; Marco Calleja as Artistic Director; Kate de Cesare for Marketing & PR Officer; Rachel Galea as Premises Manager; Anthea Xuereb for Social Events; members Louise Azzopardi and Nella Meadows.

The next production at the Manoel Theatre is the classic black comedy, Arsenic & Old Lace in April, starring Marylou Coppini, Polly March and Edward Mercieca. This will be followed by an outdoor production of Shakespeare’s Othello in July. The productions for the 2012-13 season will be announced shortly.
