To celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the founding of the MADC, an exhibition was held at the Auberge D’Italie, Merchants Street, Valletta between Friday 8th January and Friday 29th January 2010.
The exhibition was officially opened by current chairman Nanette Brimmer and ex-chairman Hubert Pugliesevich.
Established in 1910, The Malta Amateur Dramatic Club, or MADC. as it is commonly known today, is Malta's oldest theatre club. The MADC’s very first performance that year was the pantomime ‘Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp’ which ran for 12 shows, including two special performances and one gala night.
The exhibition included a number of highly interesting theatrical artifacts such as costumes, props, original models of a pantomime set and photos dating back to 1924, as well as an original head-dress worn by MADC stalwart Joe Mompalao de Piro when he played the Dame in the 1979/80 production of ‘Aladdin’.
The MADC exhibition was held under the auspices of the Parliamentary Secretariat for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority. It will be open on weekdays from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, as well as on Notte Magica on Saturday 9th January 2010.
A Gala dinner will also be held at the Radisson SAS Hotel on the 16th October 2010, 100 years to the day that the MADC was founded, as well as varius activities including quiz nights at the Club.
